UPDATE: Severe Storms Hit Lynchburg, Roanoke Areas

ABC 13 Meteorologist Jamey Singleton captured urban flooding on Fort Avenue in Lynchburg Wednesday afternoon.

UPDATE: 3:57 p.m.

Lynchburg, VA - Strong to severe thunderstorms have developed across the area, already hitting Lynchburg City, with more storms moving through the foothills of Bedford, Franklin, and Roanoke Counties into the New River Valley.

These storms contain very heavy rainfall rates, gusty winds, and vivid lightning.

Urban flooding will be an issue underneath the heavier storms.

Genuine summer heat and humidity continues for the rest of the week, along with a chance of a cooling thunderstorm.

Late week remains hot, with hit or miss thunderstorms possible. Highs hold in the low to mid 90s. This weekend showers and thunderstorms are more likely. It's not as hot, but is still very warm. Early next week looks partly sunny and seasonal, with isolated thunderstorms.

An approaching cold front could enhance the coverage of showers and heavier storms once again later this weekend.
