Update: Driver Charged With DUI After Accident in Halifax Co.

Update 5 p.m.:

Clover, VA - State police officials say the driver involved in the accident Wednesday afternoon has been charged with DUI.

Clarence Smith, 50, of Penhook, was driving the logging truck on Mount Laurel Road when the truck overturned.


Update 3:15 p.m.:

Clover, VA -Officials say crews have reopened Mount Laurel Road in Clover after an accident Wednesday afternoon.

Kirby Saunders with Halifax County Emergency Management Coordinator says a truck overturned around 1:09 p.m. in the 7000 block of Mount Laurel Road.

She says no one was hurt in the accident.

Officials called in a contractor to clean up the diesel fuel that spilled in the ditch.


Clover, VA - Hazmat crews are on the scene of a logging truck accident in Halifax County.

Emergency coordinator Kirby Saunders says the truck over turned on Mount Laurel Road near Clover. Saunders said logs and diesel fuel need to be cleaned up.

One lane is closed as crews assess and clean up the mess.

Saunders says no one was hurt.
