Update 5 p.m.:
Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Police Department has identified the two people found dead inside a home in Roanoke Monday.
Officials identified them as Erin Elizabeth Thomas, 31 of Roanoke, and Jon Peter McIlroy, 58 of Roanoke.
Earlier Tuesday, police said the two victims did live together in that house, with the woman's young daughter, but they were not married.
They also say the Medical Examiner's Office has determined the incident was a homicide/suicide.
Update 10:24 a.m.:
Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Police have confirmed the man and woman found dead inside a home Monday morning were not married.
Police also say the female victim was a single mother of a young daughter.
According to investigators, it's still not clear what the man and woman's relationship was.
Update 5 p.m.:
Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Police are still on the scene of what they are only describing, so far as a death investigation.
Investigators found two bodies in a home on the southwest side of the city.
The Roanoke City Police spokeswoman said officers responded to a call to the 1100 block of Brandon Avenue just before 10 a.m. where they found the bodies, and they've been on the scene ever since.
Throughout the day, police have been very tight lipped about the events surrounding these deaths. They say a man and a woman were found dead inside a house that sits very close to the heavily traveled intersection of Brandon and Brambleton Avenues.
The police department says both victims did suffer from gunfire and that a gun had been found in the home. Neither victim has yet been identified with autopsies scheduled for Tuesday.
All of this is happening just a block from Wasena Elementary in an area, which left some neighbors shaken.
"(I) heard , seen all the sirens and everything. It freaked me out and we were wondering what was going on. Been a nice neighborhood, so never expected something like this to happen," said Joshua Jackson, a neighbor .
