Update: Police ID Woman Found Dead in Roanoke

Update 4 p.m.:

Roanoke, VA - Police say Rebecca Dennis, 53, of Roanoke was found dead in her bathroom, and a man was over her stabbing himself in the neck with a box cutter.

Officers ordered the man to drop the box cutter, but he didn't.

Then they shot him with a pepper ball gun, but he still did not drop the weapon.

They were forced to use chemicals to get the weapon out of his hands.

He was taken to the hospital but later died. Police are not releasing his name until next of kin are notified.

Dennis' had cuts to her body and a belt around her neck.

Police believe the incident is domestic.


Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Police are investigating a homicide-suicide that left a woman and a man dead Thursday night. Officers went to a house in the 1600 block of Salem Avenue around 5:30 p.m. for a well being check.

When officers went into the house, they saw a woman lying on the floor dead. They also say a man was there with a knife. Police say they told the man to drop the knife. He didn't drop it at first, but eventually he did.

The man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with self inflicted stab wounds. He later died at the hospital. Investigators say at this point in the investigation, the incident appears domestic in nature.

Police believe the man taken to hospital appears to be the suspect. The names will be released once next of kin is notified.
