Update: Officials Investigating 'Suspicious Death' in Madison Heights Motel

Update 4:15 p.m.:

Madison Heights, VA - Officials with the Amherst County Sheriff's Office are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death.

Sheriff Jimmy Ayers says they found the body of a female inside a room at the Executive Inn in Madison Heights.

Ayers says the owner of the motel went to check on the person in the room because they hadn't checked out around 11:30 a.m. Friday. When no one answered the door, the owner called 911.

Deputies quickly arrived on the scene and determined it to be a suspicious death.

"There were indications on the body that lead us to the direction that yes, it is a suspicious death. And we have not disturbed anything right now, just doing the overall observation of the room that's just now getting started from the outside in that it is definitely of suspicious nature," said Ayers.

The sheriff also says the body is alone inside that room that deputies continue to comb through Friday night. Investigators say there are no suspects in the case yet.

They also don't believe the incident is tied to any other crime investigation they have going on.

The owner of the motel says the person who checked into the room was a man.

The motel is still open for business.
