Update: New Details in Lynchburg Manhunt for Two People
Update: 5:25 p.m.:
Lynchburg Police say the search for the two suspects started Tuesday afternoon when suspicious activity was reported at Fink's Jewelers in Forest.
Police stepped up patrols in that area Wednesday. Around 2 p.m., police approached a car for questioning and the car sped off. The car was tracked to Wyndhurst where police say the suspects got out and abandoned the car.
Police say there was not a robbery at Fink's.
Police have set up a command post outside the Home Depot on Graves Mill Road.
Earlier in the afternoon, officials placed a number of businesses and schools on lockdown.
They are currently searching in a wooded area for the two suspects. Police say they do not have reason to believe that the two men are armed.
Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police officials say they are looking for two people in the Wyndhurst area after what's being called a suspicious incident.
They say the suspects are two black men. One is wearing a red ball cap and the other is wearing a black tee shirt and blue jeans.
Parts of Wyndhurst have been blocked for the search. Lynchburg police say they believe the suspects ditched their car and are now on foot.
Police say there is a helicopter in the air around Old Graves Mill Road. They are also checking the Robin Drive area.
Officials in Campbell County say several schools went on lockdown as a result of the manhunt.
Brookville High School and Brookville Middle School had a modified lockdown because they had already had dismissal. The students in afterschool programs were brought inside.
Tomahawk Elementary School was still in session, so the school went on lockdown.
Leesville Road Elementary School also went on modified lockdown. Students were escorted one by one to their buses.
Several Wyndhurst businesses are also on lockdown.
