UPDATE: Desiree Williams, Miss Arlington, Wins Miss Va. Pageant

Roanoke, VA - Desiree Williams, Miss Arlington, was crowned the new Miss Virginia Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center's Performing Arts Center.

Bootie Bell Chewning, one of the pageant's main organizers for years, said all of the contestants were winners at heart.

"We've been telling them all week, all of the work it takes just to make it here, along with their beauty and talent, and especially their personalities make them winners," Chewning said.

Miss Lynchburg's Courtney Garrett placed in the Top Five, and was the second runner up, winning a $4550 scholarship.

Miss Hampton-Newport News Lauren Kiedinger was named first runner-up.

Miss Apple Blossom Festival Victoria Maiden and Miss Northern Virginia Savannah Lane completed the Top Five.

The pageant aired LIVE tonight on ABC 13.


Roanoke, VA - The Miss Virginia pageant started Thursday night in Roanoke at the Performing Arts Center. Preliminary competitions have already taken place, but all of the hard work comes down to Saturday night's finale.

Miss Lynchburg's Courtney Garrett won the preliminary competition Thursday, winning a $1,000 Scholarship from the Margaret Baker Foundation.

The finale Saturday night will include special guests who are scheduled to perform.

Four time Emmy nominee Bobbie Eakes, who plays Krystal on "All My Children" and Macy on "The Bold and the Beautiful" is co-hosting the event.

Along with Walt Willy, who plays Jack Montgomery on "All My Children."

Lindsey Norton from last year's "America's Got Talent" will perform too.

The pageant will air LIVE on ABC 13, WSET beginning at 9 p.m. tonight.
