Update: Danville Homicide Victim Identified

Update: 5:00 p.m.:

Danville, VA -- We are learning more about an overnight homicide in Danville. Police are on the lookout for whoever may be involved.

Emergency crews responded to shots fired on the 200 block of First Street just before 3 AM. They say 34-year-old Merrill Miguell Baker of Forest City, North Carolina died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Police say Baker was in a car when they found him. This is the third homicide in the city of Danville this year

"We've got a pretty good track record of getting to the bottom of homicides especially, and our hope is that we are successful with this one as well," said Cpt. Matt Carter, Danville Police Department.

Update: Danville Police have identified the victim of Friday morning's homicide as Merrill Miguell Baker, 34, of Forest City, North Carolina.


Danville, VA - Danville Police are investigating on overnight homicide.

Officers responded to the 200 block of First Street about 2:45 a.m. That's where they found a 34-year-old North Carolina man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's body will be taken to Roanoke for an autopsy.
