Update 5 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police say Campbell Avenue is now back open.

They say crews are done restoring power after an early morning accident caused power outages in the area.


Update 3:15 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police officials say it will be about three more hours before crews are done restoring power to residents on Campbell Avenue.

AEP crews have been working to put up a new utility pole and re-mount three transformers that were knocked out during a car accident early Sunday morning.

They say Campbell Avenue is closed to all traffic from Maryland Avenue to Light Street. It is open to pedestrians.

Officials say the driver is being treated in ICU at Lynchburg General Hospital.


Update 9:40 a.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Police say the male driver is still being treated in the hospital. Officials have filed charges against him, and they are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Lynchburg Police the pole that was knocked out in the accident held three transformers. They say AEP crews will have to replace the utility pole with a new one, and the Comcast crews will come in.

AEP officials say everything should be done between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.


Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police have closed a section of Campbell Avenue in Lynchburg after an early morning single-vehicle accident caused some power outages in the area Sunday.

Police say the driver hit a utility pole at around 3 a.m. on the 3200 block of Campbell Avenue. The driver was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The wreck caused some outages along Campbell Avenue. Appalachian Power has been working to restore power, but crews say they probably won't be done until 2 p.m.

AEP's website is reporting that 828 people are without power in the city of Lynchburg.

Police have blocked off Campbell Avenue from Light Street to Maryland Avenue. People can take Nelson Avenue as a detour. They ask that you avoid the area if possible.
