Bedford Co, VA - Shortly before noon Sunday, at 11:45 a.m. Bedford Communications alerted the Bedford Fire Department to 2616 Rocky Ford Road for the report of an explosion in a two-story wood frame detached garage.

The first engine arrived at 11:55 a.m. to find no smoke or fire showing from the two-story garage but did report that both garage doors were buckled off of their hinges from what could have been an explosion from within.

Upon further investigation, crews encountered heavy smoke and heat on the second floor and quickly located and extinguished a small fire.

The fire was marked under control ten minutes after arrival.

The cause of the fire and possible smoke explosion is under investigation by the Bedford County Fire Marshals Office.

Damage was estimated at $15,000.00 and no injuries were reported.
