UPDATE: 50-Pound Tortoise Reunited With Owner

Lynchburg, VA- ABC 13 got to be part of a very special reunion Thursday morning in Lynchburg.

Wednesday we told you about a missing tortoise named Horatio. A man heard our report and called in, saying he found the runaway reptile Friday night, strolling down Lakeside Drive. The tortoise took off from his home on Lakeside earlier that day and his owner has been looking for him ever since.

Thursday morning, we were able to reunite Debra Kania and Horatio.

"I don't know how to express it. We're just so thankful. We prayed every night that we'd have him back one way or another. And thank God that he will come home safely," said Kania.

Kania says it looks like Horatio is in good shape, but they'll take him to the vet for a check up just to be extra careful.

----------------Lynchburg, VA- Have you seen this tortoise? His name is Horatio, and he wandered away from his home on Lakeside Drive in Lynchburg last Friday night. Debra Kania says the 7 year old Sulcata Tortoise wandered away while the family worked to enlarge his enclosure.Horatio leaves behind his girlfriend of three years, Houdini. Kania says Horatio is about 50 pounds, twice as large as Houdini, and is a big part of their family. Kania continued to say "We love him, the dogs love him, the cats love him. It's really hard for us to figure out where he's gone to."She says the Silcata Tortoises don't go into deep water, so they don't believe he's gone to College Lake.
