Danville,VA- United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County took on a huge task on Friday. They packaged 50,000 meals.
It's what they called their Day of Action. They partnered with Three Angels Seventh Adventist Church, Riverview Rotary Club and God's Storehouse. Organizers said there were over 200 volunteers from all over Southside. The meals will be distributed through God's Storehouse.
United Way said these meals will definitely come in handy this summer.
" 75 percent of the students in Danville City schools are on reduced lunch and can't afford to buy food, said Nathan Cook, President and CEO of United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County"They're not in school now, so I would think there would be a greater need for this food over the summer months."
The food was provided by a food packaging company called Outreach.
