Two Motorcyclists Killed in Pittsylvania County

Pittsylvania Co., VA- State Police say two men are dead and a woman is in the hospital after a vehicle crashed into several motorcycles Saturday afternoon in Pittsylvania County.

We're told it happened around 1:00 p.m. on Route 869, about a mile south of Route 868. Police say a driver traveling south crossed the center line and hit three Harley-Davidson motorcycles in the northbound lane.

Two of the motorcyclists, 59-year-old Ray Hamlett of Chatham, and 54-year-old David Williams of Danville died at the scene. The third motorcyclist was not injured.

The driver of the car, 29-year-old Amanda Scruton of Danville, was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Scruton has been charged with driving on a suspended license, and for failing to drive on the right side of the highway.

Additional charges are pending.
