Two Local Schools Named Green Ribbon Schools

Washington, DC - Two local schools made history in the first ever U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School awards.

Roanoke's Fishburn Park Elementary School and The Gereau Center for Applied Technology & Career Exploration in Rocky Mount were named winners.

Honored schools must show create "green" environments through reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring a high-quality environmental and outdoor education.
In all, 78 schools in 29 states and D.C. won the award.
