Brookneal, VA- A baby and a one year old girl are both recovering from broken bones. Now the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office has charged their parents with child abuse.
This investigation started back in April. Investigator John Wright with the Sheriff's Office says the then six-week-old baby girl was taken to a doctor in Keysville for her shots back on April 8th.
The doctor noticed the baby had bruised ears with some blood behind them. Wright says the baby was taken into custody from that appointment and spent nine days in the hospital.
Wright says she suffered multiple broken bones and fractures; one was her collar-bone. Investigator Wright says the fractures were in multiple stages of healing. The infant's one year old sister was also taken into custody.
Wright says she spent a day in the hospital for the same injuries, multiple broken bones in different stages of healing. The girls' parents both face two counts of child abuse and were arrested on June 5th.
Kyle Lee Crews is being held on a 50 thousand dollar bond. Tonya Spence was released last week on 25 thousand dollar bond. Both Crews and Spence's parental rights have been terminated and both children are currently in foster care.
Crews and Spence are set to go to trial July 1st at the Charlotte County J&D Court.
