Train Derails Carrying Cars and Fingernail Polish in Wythe County

FarleyWytheville, VA - Some folks in Wytheville were kept out of their homes Monday night, after a train derailed in the county.The Wythe County Joint Emergency Communications Center says they got a call around 6:15 last night from someone saying a train had derailed near the intersections of Grayson Turnpike and Old Stage Road.First responders did not officially evacuate anyone, but parts of Railroad Avenue were closed.In total - officials say 14 Norfolk Southern cars were derailed and there were no injuries.The train was carrying cars and fingernail polish.Local officials say the nail polish is classified as a HAZMAT Class 9 chemical.Emergency crews say they did not find any spilled chemicals - and believe there is no danger threat to the public or environment.Norfolk Southern is responsible for the clean-up - officials say it will take several days.
