Traffic Changes Undecided For Major Upcoming Construction Project
Troutville, VA - Big changes are coming to a very busy interchange by summer's end but still no word on how it will affect drivers. VDOT's $46 million dollar interchange upgrade, at exit 150 on I-81, will begin this fall with demolition. Once that is complete a contractor will be bidded out for the job. Until then, VDOT won't know how big of an impact it will all have on traffic. Currently more than 38,000 vehicles, on average per day, use the interchange. "Until we know the traffic management plan and what those exact details will be for lane closures I can't say for certain," said spokeswoman, Jamie Smith, from VDOT's Salem office.Construction on the interchange itself should begin by the spring. The tentative wrap up date is fall 2017.
