Update: Name of Woman Killed in Madison Heights Wreck Released

10:00 a.m. Thursday Update

Amherst Co., VA - Investigators have identified the woman killed in a crash in Madison Heights as 32-year-old Meagan Brooke Flanagan.

Authorities responded to the accident on Route 130 near Berg drive about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

They say Flanagan was heading east when she crossed the center line and struck an SUV head on. She died at the scene.

A 53-year-old woman and 36-year-old man who were in the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They're expected to be okay.

Officers closed Route 130 for about three hours.


11:30 p.m. Wednesday Update:

Madison Heights, VA - One woman is dead after a car accident in Madison Heights Wednesday evening. Two others were taken to the hospital.

Traffic started moving just after 10:00 p.m. Wednesday after people were stuck on Route 130 near Hans Hill Drive for about four hours.

Officers say the two cars were headed in opposite directions on Route 130 when they crashed head-on around 6:00 p.m. Both drivers had to be cut out.

The James River Regional Crash Team responded to the crash. They say it's a heavily traveled road and drivers tend to speed up on this straight stretch. The accident caused major delays; Driver Preston Hubbard waited in traffic nearly two hours.

"This road has always had a lot of traffic. A lot of deer on it come out and, yeah know, it's a dangerous road," said Hubbard.

Police are not releasing the name of the person killed until the family is told.
