Workshop Teaches How to Restore and Repair Tobacco Barns

Chatham, VA-- Dozens gathered at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham on Thursday night, to learn how they can preserve their tobacco barns.

The workshop was put together by Preservation Virginia, an organization that helps keep historical places in good shape.

The crowd learned about the importance of keeping tobacco barns looking good, and how they can be restored and stay in good condition for many years.

"People have them and they're getting dilapidated and people don't know what to do with them," historic restoration specialist, Luke Ramsey said. "We're just trying to spread awareness and give people ideas of what they can do with these tobacco barns."

The organization is also doing surveys on tobacco barns in Pittsylvania County as part of their tobacco barns preservation project.

Ramsey said restoring these barns will help keep an important part of Virginia's agricultural history alive.
