Montvale, VA - There is some relief for people who drive between Roanoke and Lynchburg because traffic on Route 460 is moving again.
All eastbound lanes re-opened Thursday, and crews hope to have all four lanes back open by Friday afternoon.
It comes almost exactly four months after a tanker truck overturned and spilled thousands of gallons of fuel and contaminated soil near the roadway.
Three of the four lanes are moving again, and crews are remarking a single westbound lane for traffic. That's supposed be finished Friday.
The massive clean-up effort involved DEQ, V-DOT and two private contractors after nearly 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the roadway.
The tanker driver also died in the wreck.
For months, all eastbound traffic has been rerouted to a single westbound lane.
People who live here are glad to put the detours behind them.
"I went through there this morning. It seems like they did a really nice job. The road is new and I'm sure it will just be a memory in a while," said Randy Dooley.
V-DOT officials say the truck driver's insurance company will cover the entire cost of the clean-up. There's no word yet on exactly how much that will be.
