Three Charged With Child Abuse After Baby's Unexpected Death Get No Jail Time

Rockbridge Co., VA - Three people charged with child abuse in Rockbridge County will spend no time in jail. William Slagle, Heather Ruley, and Patricia Ruley all pleaded guilty on Tuesday to child abuse charges stemming from the death of a seven month old baby. Slagle and Heather Ruley were both sentenced to two years but that was suspended. They will, however, spend two years on probation. Patricia Ruley got one year probation. Investigators say the baby died last August from unexpected infant death, associated with an unsafe sleep environment. Deputies testified the house was infested with fleas and cockroaches.
