Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest Prepares for Wine Festival
Forest, VA- Folks at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest are getting ready for a big wine festival Saturday, and they're hoping a big project won't get in the way.
Crews are in the middle of an archaeological dig to find out what kind of plants and trees Thomas Jefferson originally had on the property. They cut down some boxwoods in front of the home, creating a bit of an eyesore.
Poplar Forest President Jeffrey Nichols says the timing isn't ideal, but the work must go on.
"I think it will be a great opportunity for people coming tomorrow to see the work that we do here, up close and personal. As they're waiting in line to check in or purchase their ticket, they'll be able to walk by and see what's happening here."
Saturday's wine festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. Nichols says they're expecting 16 wineries and five food vendors.
