Lynchburg, VA- A third daily passenger train from Lynchburg to Washington and New York is coming soon.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced the plans to add a new train route to Lynchburg.
City Manager Kimball Payne says this new route could help local residents have greater connectivity with the North East, and he says that's a good thing.
He also says the new route would give an opportunity for flexibility for those with different schedule needs.
The train would depart from the Kemper Street station at 4:30 in the afternoon and it would return the next day around noon. This different from the two existing routes that depart at six and 7:30 AM.
The plans for this train came out of the discussion on how to ease congestion along Route 29 amidst the long-planned 29 bypass discussion.
Payne says he thinks many people are realizing you can get to DC just as quickly on the train as you can driving, so he thinks this will be a popular route.
Payne says this route won't start until 2017.
