The Forbidden Family Series Video

In May 2000, Noreen Turyn put together an in-depth, 3-part series called "The Forbidden Family" that examined the history of the Eugenics movement in Virginia and the local people affected by it.

Her series went on to spur an official Statement of Regret by Virginia's General Assembly, and then a full-fledged apology from Governor Mark Warner.

Noreen won the prestigious national Scripps Howard Award for Excellence in Journalism, and a regional Edward R. Murrow award for her work on this project.
