The Buzz: July 27-29

We have some great outdoor festivals and events going on this weekend. And if you want stay cool, you don't want to miss these. Lynchburg's first ever James River Splash and Dash is this Saturday, July 28. The race will start with a two-mile trail run on Percival's Island followed by a tube race across the river. There will be an afterpaty at the Depot Grill with music, food and beer. Proceeds from the race go to the James River Association. Tickets are $25, and pre-registration is required before 2 p.m. Friday.

Have you ever had vanilla ice cream served in cantaloupe bowls? Sounds tasty, right? Well this Friday you can try it at the Virginia Cantaloupe Festival. Come out to the Halifax County Fairgrounds for an evening of great music, good friends, and of course a lot of cantaloupe. That's from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m.

In Roanoke County, there's the Fourth Annual Touch-a-Truck, Wheels, Wings & Water! Kids can climb, touch and explore all kinds of cool trucks, planes and boats. They will even have odd things like street sweepers, cement mixers and school buses. There will also be a foam put, a petting zoo, magicians and tons of food. That's free at Green Hill Park from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.{}
