Teen Admits Stealing Nativity Scene from Forest Church

Forest, VA - A Bedford County teenager says he stole the baby Jesus from a nativity scene outside of Shiloh United Methodist church.

According to the jail website, John Killgo has been booked and released from the Bedford Adult Detention Center, charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, grand larceny, destruction of property, and entering property with the intent to damage.

Prior to Killgo's arrest, he called our news station wanting to come clean.

"It was my buddy's birthday party and we got bored," John Killgo explained of the events leading up to Sunday night.

He says he and his four friends planned on returning the nativity scene after taking a Facebook picture.

But, after seeing all the media attention the prank had received, the 19-year-old says one of his friends panicked and got rid of the evidence by driving the figurines to a dump.

Killgo says he doesn't know which dump he went to, and declined to name his friend.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed his story.

"I want to apologize to the church. I wouldn't want someone to come steal from me," Killgo said in front of what's left of the nativity set -- an empty stable and plastic sheep.
