Suspicious Package Reported at the Danville Mall

Danville, VA - Virginia State Police and the bomb squad were called to the Danville Mall Tuesday night after reports of a suspicious package.

Crews got to the scene just before 9 p.m. after sources told ABC 13 a mall employee called authorities.
Sources tell ABC 13 they found food and an item resembling a firearm inside. Police say no hazardous materials were found but parts of the mall were evacuated as a precaution.
"Anytime you see a package which you think is suspicious, don't get near it, call police and we will assess whether State Police need to be called or what are the circumstances around it," said Lt. Mike Wallace, Danville Police Department.
Police say no charges have been filed and they are not looking for any suspects. The Mall owners released a statement saying they emphasize safety for all of their patrons.
