Suspect Sought In Charity Jar Theft

Roanoke Co., VA - Investigators are still on the lookout for a woman they believe may have helped a man steal hundreds of dollars seniors citizens were collecting for charity.

On Tuesday, 37 year old Jared Shirey turned himself in.

Police believe that is Shirey in the surveillance pictures taken at Edinburgh Square retirement community on July 15th.

Police say at least two people took of with a large jar of money that was near the front door of the apartment building.

The money had been receiving spare change for about a year. "Where everyone could see it and everybody trusted everybody else and didn't think that some person of that low life character would steal the money,"said Ron Adkins, president of Edinburgh Square.Shirey was charged with grand larceny.The money has not been recovered.
