Lynchburg, VA - Johnny Appleseed taught students at Lynchburg's Hutcherson Early Learning Center about Arbor Day by planting new trees Friday morning.City council member Joan Foster read the mayor's proclamation to the kids at the school. Then the kids got planting. The students learned a lot from Lynchburg's tree stewards who honor local trees in five major categories.Marge Denham, a Tree Care volunteer said, "Arbor day is even more important today because we are losing an awful lot of trees. Some due to climate change, some due to pollution, some just because of development."Denham says it's important to teach the kids about trees now because they will be the stewards of trees in the future.
