Students Honored for Academic Achievement

Danville, VA-- 160 high school and college seniors in Halifax County, Pittsylvania County, and Danville were honored on Thursday night for their academic achievement.

The Danville Community College chapter of Alliance for Excellence, held their 27th Annual Academic Awards Program for African-American students.

Students with outstanding grades were chosen by their high school and college counselors for the awards. The guest speaker was Torrey Dixon, Assistant Attorney General for North Carolina Department of Justice. He encouraged the students to keep their good work.

"It's good that we take time to think about the students and encourage them, when we see them doing something positive, encourage that," said Dixon.

Outgoing DCC president, Dr. Carlyle Ramsey was also honored tonight for his commitment to the program.
