Store Owners Prepared to Host Paul Ryan Wednesday

Roanoke Co., VA - It's going to be an early morning Wednesday for people in the Roanoke Valley who want to see Vice Presidential hopeful Representative Paul Ryan.

Ryan will be taking the stage behind the Northwest Hardware on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke County at 9:15 a.m., and we have some warnings for you if you are in that area.

The most important thing you need to know is that if you don't have a ticket, you won't get in. Beyond that -{} parking will be a nightmare, so pay attention for some advice.

When a call came into Charlie Overstreet that the Romney campaign was looking to bring in a politician and they wanted to use one of his locations to host the event, he didn't think twice.

"Our hardware store isn't used to this much excitement. August is one of our slower times of the year, but things are popping right now," said Overstreet.

Then when he found out it was Ryan, he was even happier.

"To have somebody who is in the national news come to a small hardware store in Roanoke, Virginia is exciting to this small hardware guy," he said.

To the folks at Northwest Hardware, who is coming doesn't matter as much as what the visit means.

"We sell to Democrats and Republicans, so we'd be happy to work with all parties," said Walter Vance.

This also means the setup crews are already in place getting the event together. With as many as 3,000 people expected, Roanoke County police are also warning drivers to beware of major congestion on Brambleton Ave. before noon.

Those who are coming need to pick up a shuttle at Tanglewood Mall because of limited parking space.

Sam Minter owns the business right next door and plans to give his crew a half a day off because of the parking problems and congestion.

"They're calling us a major battleground state and from all the stuff that's been going on you can believe it now," said Minter from The Sole Man.

There's still three months to go until Election Day. The event is open to the public starting at 7 a.m. with the Congressman expected on the stage around 9:15 a.m.

The Roanoke County Police Department is working with the U.S. Secret Service to provide security for the event.
