Blacksburg, VA - Virginia Tech President Charles Steger delivered the commencement address to more than 5,000 graduates Friday at Lane Stadium.
This will be the only commencement address Steger will deliver as university president, having announced earlier this week he is stepping down from the position.
Steger called it a tremendous privilege to share this moment with the graduates.
"These 14 years I've had the privilege of serving as president, have really been the highlight of my career in education," said Steger. "When I sat where you are today, many years ago, I could not have foreseen the path that would bring me to this podium today."
Steger will remain on the job while the university searches for his replacement.
It's a tradition at Virginia Tech for the university president to give the commencement address at least once during his time as president. Steger did so at the encouragement of commencement officials.
