State Police to Function as Resource Officers in Amherst Co.

Amherst Co, VA - In the next few weeks, there will be a new face inside Amherst County Public Schools.

The state police and school administrators have agreed to put a trooper inside classrooms.

The first sergeant says the trooper will rotate between all county schools and serve the same function as a School Resource Officer.

They've also offered to do the same thing in Campbell County but have not discussed the specifics.

State police came up with the idea before the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, but it prompted them to move forward with the plans.
