Lynchburg, VA - There's an extra set of security returning to Lynchburg's three middle schools, just in time for the next school year. At Tuesday's city council meeting a five to two vote approved returning school resource officers to Dunbar, Linkhorne, and Sandusky Middle Schools. SROs haven't been in city middle schools for three years. School administrators though have been outspoken about their desire to return the officers, and the Lynchburg Police Department, is more than ready to accommodate. "I was elated. I was very happy for our students, for the parents, for the teachers, administrators, and for the Lynchburg Police Department. Because I served in that capacity for years and I saw all the positive benefits of being a school resource officer," said Officer David Ragland who is the SRO Program Supervisor. A combination of funding from the state, city, and school system will help to pay for the three officers set to start their new roles in August.
