Special Prosecutor Appointed in Delma Towler Shooting Case

Delma Towler

Altavista, VA - We might not know until the first of the year just what transpired the night an Altavista Police officer shot and killed an elderly woman outside her home last month.

Roanoke Commonwealth's Attorney Don Caldwell has been appointed special prosecutor to look over the case involving 83 year old Delma Towler.

An officer was responding to a possible break-in at about 10 p.m. on September 20, and ended up shooting Towler after police say she wouldn't put down her gun.

Her sister says she didn't have her hearing aids in.

State police are investigating.

Caldwell says he hopes to get their findings in 45 to 60 days, then make a ruling about 30 days after that.
