Special Olympics Virginia Holds Annual Track and Field Day

Danville, VA - Special Olympics Virginia held their annual Spring Track and Field Day at George Washington High School in Danville Thursday.

Athletes came from all over Southside to participate. Area high school students and college students also joined in to volunteer.Representatives said the tennis throw is the most popular event, but the participants also competed in the long jump and relay.Organizers say it was a day full of lots smiles and excitement."A few hours of the day today, they forget about their disability, they forget about their challenges that they have in life and they just get to be a human, they get to be you and me and they get to compete, they get to have people cheer for them,"Liz Parke, Area 7 Coordinator for Special Olympics Virginia.Organizers said the event keeps growing and growing. Today they had their biggest crowd yet.{}
