Richmond, VA - The bill taxpayers are paying for Governor McDonnell's attorneys are at $240,000 so far. Some say it's unfair that needy Virginians don't get that kind of cash for their legal defense.
Fairfax Delegate Scott Surovell says taxpayers are getting stuck with the governor's six figure legal bills, when ordinary Virginians in need of a lawyer are given just a fraction of the legal support.
"I think it reinforces voter perceptions that the people who are in control of government and have the means can get what they want and everybody else gets crumbs and table scraps," says Surovell.
If you were facing the rest of your life behind bars and needed a court appointed attorney your lawyer would get paid on average about $10 an hour, compared to the $250 and $495 an hour lawyers get working for the governor.
