Smoke From Brush Fire Fills Roanoke Valley

Wythe Co., VA - A wildfire in Wythe County has now grown to more than 500 acres.

People dozens of miles away are feeling its effects too.

Smoke filled the Roanoke Valley Friday-- more than 80 miles from the fire!

Roanoke County fielded so many calls they issued a media alert.

The fire is on the north side of Horse Heaven Mountain. It's part of the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest. So far, just 15 % of the fire is contained.

"It's wild that it came all the way up here. It isn't windy so I don't know how it got here," said Donald Wimmer, a Roanoke resident.

Right now a public meeting is underway to inform those who are concerned about where they stand in fighting this thing.
