Boones Mill, VA - The Red Cross says they are helping three adults and three children after an early Friday fire at their Rocky Top Lane home.
The early investigation shows the fire began in a newly installed furnace.
Fire Marshal Bennie Russell says at one point the flames were so bright it could be seen for miles.
The investigation shows the homeowner was relaxing just before 12:30 early Friday morning when she heard, what she thought, was rain coming down.
She then opened the door to the furnace room to check it out - and found the room fully involved.
She was able to get the other five people in the home out without any injury.
That included ten-year old twins and a 12-year old boy.
Even though it took crews about an hour to knock the flames down Boones Mill volunteers were still putting out hot spots well into Friday afternoon.
The fire totally destroyed the home and also claimed three vehicles.
On scene estimates by Franklin County authorities put the initial loss at more than $300,000.
