Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg soldier injured while serving his first tour in Afghanistan is back in town for a special benefit in his honor.
WIQO Radio and the Military Order of the Purple Heart is hosting a silent auction for 29-year-old Sergeant Kareem Francis.
It will take place Tuesday night from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Phase 2 in Lynchburg.
Francis is now re-learning how to walk and has been spending his days at Walter Reed in Baltimore recovering.
"It's really exciting what the radio station is doing for him. They just want to give a little support to Kareem and I think everyone should show up for this because it's really good for every soldier. We live in a good community and we are so grateful to have a community like Lynchburg, VA and I really appreciate everything they have done for my son," said Ricky Theodore.
Organizers say 100 % of the money raised will help Sgt. Francis and his family with medical expenses.
