From the ABC 13 Weather Center:
Heat and humidity along with a strong disturbance and cool front brings the viewing area the chance of severe thunderstorms.
It's windy and hot today with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Any thunderstorms that develop could become severe. Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph are possible in some of the thunderstorms, but they are not expected to organize into a derecho. The storms could also contain large hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours.
The threat window is between noon and 8 p.mm, but the counties near the West Virginia state line may have weakening showers and thunderstorms this morning.
The damaging storms are expected to be more numerous to the south and east, toward Raleigh, Richmond, Norfolk, Washington D.C., and across the Chesapeake.
