Update 2PM Wednesday:New data indicates that the biggest threat for severe weather through this afternoon is shifting more to the east. As a result, there is a Tornado Watch in effect towards Richmond and Hampton Roads, that borders our area to the east, but does NOT include any counties from our viewing area. Still, areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms could contain damaging winds, and both straight-line and tornadic remain possible through about 7PM. However, the threat is lower than envisioned this morning. Still, be sure to check the forecast frequently to remain aware of any severe weather watches (or warnings) that are issued. ----------Be alert... Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across the region this afternoon.Additionally, a Flash Flood Watch continues through midnight. Total rain by dawn Thursday averages 1-3 inches, but isolated locations will be upwards of 5 inches. Keep an eye on streams and creeks over the next 24 hours, then on the larger rivers (Dan, Staunton, James) for the second half of the week. Some flooding is expected on the Dan and Staunton River in Halifax and Charlotte Counties. How bad will depend on how much rain actually falls between now and tonight. In addition to the areas of heavy rain, this afternoon thunderstorms and squalls with damaging winds, both straight-line and tornadic are possible. Be sure to check the forecast frequently to remain aware of any severe weather watches (or warnings) that are issued. The threat window looks to be between 1PM and 7PM for any damaging winds. The weather pattern begins to settle down on Thursday, with the return to sunshine and highs in the 70s. However, cooler air returns for Friday and the weekend. Those days all look dry, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
