Roanoke, VA - Senator Tim Kaine stopped by a Roanoke elementary school Monday to see how the school's summer enrichment programs are going.
Kaine spent a few hours at Westside Elementary having lunch with teachers and talking about the education system.
Kaine also toured a few classrooms that were full of students participating in the district's summer course, RCPS-Plus. More than 2,000 students are taking advantage of the six week program.
"Because it is summer, after all, you want to keep the kids engaged and enjoying themselves. But the teachers are excited about what they are doing and the kids are clearly excited. And it helps them when they come back in the fall to be successful," said Senator Tim Kaine (D) Virginia.
Senator Kaine has been touring southwestern Virginia over the past few days with stops today at Volvo in Dublin and in Roanoke.
