Senate Committee Makes Changes to Governor's Transportation Bill
Richmond, VA - A Senate committee has made some changes to Governor McDonnell's transportation funding reform bill.
The proposal would eliminate the gas tax in exchange for an increase in the state sales tax from 5% to 5.8%.
The Senate committee's proposal would restore and increase the gasoline tax, add a one percent fuel sales tax and allow localities to add another 1% tax to fuel.
The bill will face a floor vote later this week, then return to the House where it will likely be rejected.
