Amherst Co., VA - Senator Mark Warner visited central Virginia Thursday, talking about college affordability and student loan debt.Warner spoke to students at Sweet Briar College before heading to Roanoke. He has proposed giving income-based Pell grants to qualified high school students so they can take one semester of college courses before they leave high school. He also encourages students to transfer to four year schools instead of starting there.Warner says there is now more student debt than credit card debt. Another proposal he has suggested would cap the rate of student debt repayment at 10 percent of that person's income.
