Sediment Buildup Prevents Crews From Inspecting Schoolfield Dam

Danville, VA-- Sediment buildup at the Schoolfield Dam in Danville stopped crews from doing a routine inspection on Tuesday.

Danville Utilities and STS Hydro canceled the scheduled inspection after they were unable to open the drain gains to lower the reservoir level this morning.

The Danville Water Treatment Plant said it is highly unlikely the build up had anything to do with coal ash. They said it was mostly sand, mud, and logs behind the gate.

Divers will clear the sediment sometime next week. Until then, the boat ramp at Abreu-Grogan Park will remain open and boats can be launched there.
