School System Enters into Agreement Against Discrimination

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg City School system has entered into an agreement with the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, to make sure the district isn't discriminating against minorities.

Back in 2010 the Department launched a random review to make sure African American students had the same opportunities as others.

The school system didn't hear anything more for years, until getting contacted recently that the department was going to continue its review.

Rather than expend staff time and energy, the school system decided to enter into the voluntary agreement because it includes elements the new administration has already implemented or planned to.

It's meant to ensure the college and career readiness programs and student discipline policies are consistent for all students.
