Schmookler Challenges Goodlatte to Debates

Lynchburg, VA - Sixth District House candidate Andy Schmookler drew a crowd in Lynchburg Thursday.

The Democrat addressed supporters on Monument Terrace, where he challenged his opponent Republican Bob Goodlatte to a series of debates.

A resident of the Shenandoah Valley, Schmookler told the crowd he's concerned with the direction the country and Virginia is headed.

Schmookler says he's not intimidated by Goodlatte's 20 year incumbency.

He says instead, he's motivated to change Washington.

"I saw eight years ago, something happening in the American political system that caused me such alarm, that I have spent full time investigating this, speaking about it, writing about it, so that we the American people, while we still have the tools of our democracy, can turn it around," he said.

Schmookler says he hopes Goodlatte will take him up on his challenge.

He suggested debates in Lynchburg, Roanoke and Harrisonburg.
