Salem Schools Considering Changing Coaching Policies
SALEM, VA - Salem City Schools are considering changes administrators hope will help curb future inappropriate communications between adults within the district and students.
The review of policy comes after the arrest of a volunteer volleyball coach who has been charged with producing and possessing child pornography.
While not involved in Salem's situation - Pete Lampman is the President of Virginia Amateur Sports and he says such policies protect not only the kids, but adults too.
"I think overall, for the protection of the coaches and the athletes they work with - and the kids they work with - something probably does need to be in place at least to have some guidelines to follow which is important to everybody," Lampman said.
District leaders expect to take up the policy change in May.
Meanwhile, Barger has made bail and has a preliminary hearing set for June 3.
