Salem Beats Hillcats 7-4

Lynchburg - The Salem Red Sox broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth and never trailed from there as they beat the Hillcats 7-4 for their second straight win at Lynchburg.

The Hillcats' Ryan Weber was perfect through three innings but two Lynchburg Hillcats errors in the fourth led to three runs. The Hillcats (7-7) are back to .500 for the first time since the third game of the season.

Neither team picked up a hit through the first three innings. Salem got three runs in the fourth, then two in the sixth to increase its lead to 5-0.

The Hillcats responded with two of their own in the sixth. Matt Lipka led off with a single and advanced to second on a groundout by Reyes. William Beckwith followed up with an RBI-double to get Lynchburg on the board. Beckwith later scored on an RBI-groundout by Kyle Kubitza, making it a 5-2 ballgame.

Henry Ramos and Jose Garcia delivered back-to-back doubles in the top of the eighth to provide some insurance for Salem. They would need it as Robby Hefflinger and David Rohm each had RBI-hits in the home half to get the score to the eventual 7-4 final.

The Hillcats look to avoid being swept for the first time this season in the finale Sunday. First pitch is 2:05pm with gates opening at 1pm.
